NEW MUSIC WE LOVE: Cher’s “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)” (ABBA Cover)

August 9, 2018 Albumism Staff

Artist: Cher
Song: “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)”
Album: Dancing Queen (due in stores September 28th)

Five years since Cher released her last album, 2013’s Closer to the Truth, the multimedia legend has revealed plans to release her twenty-sixth studio album Dancing Queen, comprised of ten ABBA covers. Slated to hit stores September 28th courtesy of Warner Bros. Records, the new project follows her recent appearance in the film Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again and is preceded by lead single “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight),” the original version of which surfaced in 1979 on ABBA’s Greatest Hits Vol. 2.

"I've always liked ABBA and saw the original Mamma Mia musical on Broadway three times,” Cher explained in an official statement. “After filming Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, I was reminded again of what great and timeless songs they wrote and started thinking 'why not do an album of their music?' The songs were harder to sing than I imagined but I'm so happy with how the music came out. I'm really excited for people to hear it. It's a perfect time.”
