NEW MUSIC WE LOVE: Sharon Van Etten’s “Porta”

February 9, 2022 Albumism Staff

It’s shaping up to be quite a busy (and productive) year for Sharon Van Etten, as she’s set to embark upon not one, but two tours in the coming months. This spring, she’ll launch the Darkness Fades tour of Europe, followed by a string of summer dates along The Wild Hearts tour, during which she’ll grace North American stages with Angel Olsen, Julien Baker and Spencer.

But first things first, Van Etten has unveiled her propulsive and poignant new single “Porta,” which marks her first solo recording since 2020’s “Beaten Down” single and 2019’s acclaimed Remind Me Tomorrow LP. The song was composed “at one of my lowest lows,” Van Etten confides in an official statement. “For most of my adult life I have struggled with bouts of depression and anxiety and coping mechanisms, and I sometimes let those dark moments get the best of me. During this time I felt very dissociated. Not connected to my body and I felt out of control.”

Watch the official video for “Porta” below and stay tuned for news about her forthcoming sixth studio album.
